Light to Dark – with drapes and lipsticks – VALUE demonstration

In color analysis, I look at 3 main color attributes: HUE warm/cool, CHROMA bright/soft and VALUE light/dark.

Now it’s time to look at the VALUE.

For most people, the VALUE = color lightness is way less important than the other two attributes. But not for me, because I am a Light Spring color type. That means light colors near my face suit me better.

Here’s a little wig+lipstick gradient to demonstrate. I start with lighter wigs and go darker and darker.

Look at the last photo, even I am afraid of myself, looking like that!

1. A light and warm wig + a typical Spring lipstick that I often wear. This looks good on me, even though my natural hair color is darker than this.

2. Still a light wig, but slightly darker than the previous + a barely there lip tint: it looks natural on me.

3. An ombre hair with brown roots and honey blonde ends + the previous lip tint. This wig looks brown on me with lighter ends, but on lots of people, it looks like a grown-out blonde. I wore this a lot when I discovered wigs.

4. The same ombre hair but the darker lipstick that adds instant drama to me. (This wouldn’t look dramatic but natural on some other color types.)

5. A medium brown wig with light brown highlights + the previous lipstick (yes, I am not kidding, this is medium brown: it’s a good example of how colors look darker on a Light color type)

6. A dark brown wig + dark lipstick: well, it’s a vibe, but it seems it’s not mine. On me it’s obviously off but believe me, this can look harmonious and ‘just right’ on people who belong to dark color types.

I very recently learned I need to wear glasses, that’s why the mismatch.

I don’t use filters for the benefit of my own and other people’s mental health.

If you are not familiar with wigs: these are the most affordable, synthetic wigs currently on the market. They are not the most realistic but for €10-15 I am very happy with them.

What do you think? Can you see the difference? Who would you rather ask for directions on the street: the light-haired Bea or the dark-haired Bea?
