Warm to Cool – with drapes and lipsticks – HUE demonstration

In color analysis, I look at 3 main color attributes: HUE warm/cool, CHROMA bright/soft and VALUE light/dark.

Now it’s time to look at the HUE.

Here I am, demonstrating the first one: HUE ๐Ÿ”ฅ warm/cool colors, while having some fun.

There are many theories how to separate warm and cool colors. In color analysis we compare the hues of colors to the color of the skin. Purple looks very cool against the skin, while orange always gives a warm effect.

When I start a color analysis session I like to put on different shades of purples and oranges on the client. This helps to see which way the client is leaning towards. (Don’t worry, the hair and the mismatched lips are not part of a normal color analysis.)

I thought why not put on a wig that’s half orange, half indigo and why not apply my warmest and coolest lipstick from my well-researched ~50 shades lipstick collection. ๐Ÿ’„

I bought this wig to demonstrate the differences of the ๐ŸŒก๏ธ HUE extremities because a few years ago I discovered where I am on the warm/cool spectrum with the help of wigs. The cool-toned, ashy wig made me look tired and 10 years older, the warm-toned wig made me look healthy and confident. Hair color does not predict your type, but it matters considering the overall effect.

I sliced up the photo to see the effect of one color at a time.

On the orange side, I put a bright orange color drape, and on the other side, I put on a purple one. (Usually, I only put on one drape at a time.)

Color drapes are the best tools to tell someone’s type. Naturally, I have a carefully selected drape collection.

The effect of color drapes on our face is most visible in real life. Maybe you can see some differences between the two colors even in pictures.

The photo is unedited and unfiltered, I only removed the background and added a little visual for aesthetic reasons.

Most people are somewhere between the warmest and the coolest end points, that’s true for me as well.

That means none of these 2 colors will be my favourite, but compared to each other one will be more harmonious.

Can you see the difference when you only see half of my face? Which side looks more harmonious to you?

As I am a Light Spring color type, neither is my best shade of these colors but neither is awful on me. I am between the two HUE extremities, but significantly closer to the warm end of the spectrum.

Out of the 12 subtypes, there are 2 Warm subtypes (Warm Spring and Warm Autumn) and 2 Cool subtypes (Cool Summer and Cool Winter) and people who belong to those subtypes could demonstrate this more effectively than I. But still, I think I give a kinder and more approachable in orange.
